Museum Mandala Jogjakarta, Part I

OK, surely one of you consider going to a museum is something that is ludicrous, especially in Indonesia, the profiles of people who go to the museum are school students or students who are looking for a reference. Rarely are ordinary people who visit. And the image we are going to the museum so far, bleak, boring, haunted?

But this one is different museum, the museum is always dreamed to go. The museum that I wanted to go since junior high school, especially since i know Angkasa Magazine. Yup this is the Museum Mandala, Air and Space Museum, or whatever can you call it, essentially this is a museum displaying Indonesian military flying machines. From the magazine I know that in this museum displayed many Indonesian fighter planes. And finally I had a chance to Mandala Museum in Jogjakarta one month ago with my friend (who happened to also like the military and aviation)

So the two of us get on a motorcycle. Mandala Museum is located next to fly over Janti, Jogjakarta. So if you from the Solo must walk slowly after getting off the flyover because the museum is on the left. Because the museum is located in the Air Force Base and its location adjacent to the international airport, you can not just go in and out. To enter must stop first because there are barrrier that guarded by two armed soldiers, so not a good idea to directly enter without permission. But do not worry, two soldiers are quite friendly, stopping at the post and leave your identity card, just that, without the need to pay.



























My first suggestion, do not rush into the Museum, on the outside you can see an airplane that can make you say Wooww. In total there are 4 planes and 1 missile on display. And this is our first visit, a Tupolev! For information Tupolev is a long-range Soviet-made bombers that had greatly feared the west. And Indonesia already have a Tupolev since the 1960's, this aircraft was deployed on operations Trikora and Dwikora. If you look at the sides of its wings there is a missile control KS


























After Tupolev entered the museum seems to Indonesia did not have more planes this good, too bad.


























OK let's move on to the next plane, a Navy amphibious plane, with a strange snout nose. hmm somehow I was not too interested in amphibious aircraft.


Next, a jet fighter, Hawk aircraft that was quite controversial. Controversial because this plane is a former Air Force fighter jets Israel. The problem is that Indonesia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, so how can we buy fighter planes from countries that we never thought existed?



























However this Hawk has a lot of merit, starting from the mission Seroja (East Timor), crush the separatist movement (GAM, OPM), and various other operations. And now the hero is powerless against the changing times.
